Lesson Overview
• Scripture calls us to earnestly desire and pursue God’s wisdom. What is wisdom and how do we find it? This youth group lesson unpacks what godly wisdom is and how to find it!
Breakdown
• Main Scripture: James 1:5; Psalm 111:10; Proverbs 3:7
• Bottom Line: God is the source of wisdom.
Capture: Grab their attention with an illustration.
• Illustration/Story: Have you ever struggled to figure something out in school? Anyone hate math or science? It’s like a different language! Tell a story about a time you were stumped by a problem and you had to ask for help. The reality was that you just didn’t have the answer. Someone else had the wisdom you desperately needed to understand. When you asked for help from a tutor, friend, or teacher, you began to understand!
• Spiritually, we have a great need for wisdom in our lives. We need to know right from wrong, discernment in difficult situations, and much more. We need wisdom!
Connect: Connect them to God’s word.
• Tension Question: Are you struggling to figure something out in your life? Whether it’s a relationship, a problem you’re facing, your family, or whatever — God is ready to teach us how to get wisdom tonight through His word!
• Scripture: James 1:5 — Wisdom is available for you if you will ask God for it!
Consider: What does this mean for us today?
• Scripture: Psalm 111:10 — Fearing God is the foundation of true wisdom!
• Scripture shows us that if we want to know wisdom, we have to find it in our relationship with God Himself.
• The fear of the Lord is not to be scared of God, but to have a reverence and awe for who God is.
• If you want to experience true wisdom, Scripture tells us to respect God and obey His commandments.
• As we obey God, we grow with Him in wisdom. We must recognize that wisdom will not come from pure information or knowledge — but God alone.
• Bottom Line: God is the source of wisdom.
Collide: How do we apply this in our lives?
• Scripture: Proverbs 3:7 — Don’t be impressed by your own wisdom!
• There is a difference between true wisdom, mentioned in the Psalms, and human wisdom, which falls short.
• When we lean on our own wisdom and are impressed by ourselves, we miss out on true Godly wisdom in our lives.
• One way we can fear God in awe and respect is to turn away from evil. If you want to know wisdom, start by cleaning out things in your life that don’t bring glory to God.
• Application: Get wisdom by turning away from evil.
Call: How do we respond to the message?
• Altar moment: Make an intentional decision to get wisdom in your life through your relationship with God today in prayer at the altar in surrender to God!
